Altar Servers assist the Priest and Deacons at Mass by assisting with incense, carrying the processional crucifix, holding the Roman Missal, carrying the candles for the Gospel reading, and assisting with gifts at the offertory. A one hour and fifteen minute a week commitment and a yearly workshop is required.

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING
Boys interested in altar serving must attend a five day training session.
Boys must be entering 5th grade or above in the fall, and have made their First Holy Communion to be an altar server at Ss. Simon & Jude Cathedral.
Contact Chris Mincolla at cmincolla@simonjude.org or 602-242-1300 X146 at least one week prior to the session you choose to attend. You only have to attend one of these two five day options either in July or August.
SACRISTAN TRAINING
For girls interested in serving, you have an opportunity to become involved in the cathedral’s new program for sacristans. This is a vital ministry for any Catholic parish, but in a particular way for the Cathedral. The sacristan sets up for Mass by preparing the sacred vessels, linens, bread, wine, sacred texts for Mass, keeping the holy water fonts filled, and works in coordination with the ushers, greeters, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, lectors, and altar servers. For training, we will have you shadow one of our other Sacristans during the weekday or weekend Masses depending on what days work for you.
Girls must be entering 5th grade or above, in the fall, and have made your First Holy Communion to be a sacristan at Ss. Simon & Jude Cathedral.
