In 2002, the bishops of the United States, with the approval of the Holy See (Vatican) adopted a stringent program of education and accountability, not only in response to the grievous and painful instances of sexual abuse in the life of the Church, but in response to a growing awareness that such forms of abuse are prevalent in wider society as well!
“Called To Protect” is the diocesan program of Safe Environment Training (SET) that requires all persons engaged in any form of public ministry within the life of the Church to complete the SET program and to renew such training at least on an annual basis. Ordinarily, for new volunteers, this training is facilitated through individual parish communities… however, there is NO exception to participation in SET for those seeking to assist in public service in the life of the Church!
